Photoshop Seminars

This is such a great time to be a digital photographer and/or just getting started learning to use Photoshop. There are some very high quality training programs out there and among them are the one-day seminars put on by the good people over at Photoshop User. Check their schedule for a training event in your area.

Art of Photography - Call for Entries

art_of_photography.jpg

I was speaking with Steven Churchill a few months back at PhotoPlus Expo in New York about an upcoming event that he is working on called the Art of Photography. Here's a quick blurb from Steven on the upcoming event. If you are a photographer and would like to have your work considered for the show, be sure to read on!

The Art of Photography Show 2006 is an international exhibition of photographic art which will take place April 20 - June 4, 2006 at the Lyceum Theatre, located in the historic Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego. The Prospectus and entry details are available here. Arthur Ollman, the Director of the Museum Of Photographic Arts, is the Judge for this exhibition. $3,000 in Cash Awards will be given out. There will be a very nice Show Catalog, in which each artist in the show can have info about themselves and their photography business. Also, they're executing a massive marketing and publicity strategy in order to achieve substantial media attention and sales results for the Show's participants. Images created via any form of photography will be accepted for consideration (i.e. shot on film, shot digital, unaltered shots, alternative process, mixed media, digital manipulations, montages, etc.), so long as part of the image is photographically created. A four minute QuickTime clip of the 2004 exhibit can be viewed here. For more information please contact the Curator, Steven Churchill: steven@artofphotographyshow.com or (858) 793-0900

Addition to Pro Corner

The onOne Software Pro Corner features professional photographers and Photoshop Gurus who use some of our products. We're proud to have recently added Rick Sammon to our site. Rick joins our other pros Vincent Versace, Jim DiVitale, Helene Glassman and Elizabeth Carmel.

I first started talking to Rick just recently in December 2005 just after he had returned from Antarctica. Here's a link to his weblog that has a great slideshow.

Aperture Tricks

I came across this site the other day called ApertureTricks.com. If you are an Aperture user, you should check it out.

Pro Corner

If you haven't seen the latest addition to our site, you should check out our new Pro Corner. It features several professional photographers and Photoshop Gurus who are using one or more of our Photoshop Plug-Ins.

We're very fortunate that these people have been gracious enough to lend us their photographs for display on our site and their willingness to work with us. Each of them are incredibly busy either traveling to their next shoot, writing new books or teaching Photoshop classes around the country so we really appreciate them taking the time out of their schedules to work with us. Be sure to check out the links on each of the Pro's personal pages to see more of their work and other events that they are participating in.

Retouching a face in Photoshop

I ran across this highly detailed tutorial the other day on retouching a face on the Lunacore.com site. If you do any retouching - even on family photos - I highly recommend it.

History of Lightroom/Shadowland

Speaking of Lightroom, there's a great article posted over at PhotoshopNews.com by Jeff Schewe that details the beginnings of Lightroom (code name Shadowland).

Last week at Macworld SF, I ran into several people who swore to me that Lightroom was a quick reaction to Apple's Aperture announcement/launch at Photo Plus East in November 2005. These kinds of apps don't get built in a few months. They take years as evidenced by Jeff's article. Great story. I highly recommend it.

Adobe Lightroom Beta 1.1 Available

Adobe Lightroom has been updated to Beta 1.1. You can check it out at http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=labs_lightroom.

According to the Lightoom Beta General Discussion Forums this new version addresses a couple of issues including:

-Removed possibility of file deletion after a duplicate file is imported into the Library using the "Move Files to Lightroom Library" option

-Updated processing algorithms for the Panasonic DMC-LX1 and Panasonic DMC-FZ30 cameras
