Plug-In Suite 4.2 Now Available with Genuine Fractals 6

December 5, 2008 by Mike Wong • 21 Comments

The Plug-In Suite 4.2 is now available for download and purchase directly from our main site. If you already own the Plug-In Suite 4.0 or 4.1, you can download the Plug-In Suite 4.2 update as a free update. Included in the update are a few fixes for PhotoFrame 4 Professional Edition and a completely new version of Genuine Fractals 6 Professional Edition (previously this would have been under the Print Pro moniker).

So if you already own a copy of the Plug-In Suite 4, here's how you can get the Plug-In Suite 4.2 update.

The Plug-in Suite 4 can be updated via the auto-update checks built into any of the plug-ins that make up the Plug-In Suite itself. Launch any of the Plug-In Suite plug-ins, open either the Help menu or the Photoshop menu (depending on the plug-in), select "Check For Updates" and you will be guided through the update process.

Using the Check For Updates menu will cause the updates to be downloaded immediately and you will be unable to use Photoshop while the download is happening. If you wish you can also download the updates from your web browser by following the instructions below.

If you are unsure which version of the Plug-In Suite 4 you currently have installed, the safest, most sure-fire way to get the correct update is to update using the Check for Updates feature in one of the plug-ins.

  2. Why do you bother to send these things as zip files? It’s a waste of time and adds an unnecessary additional step to the install process.

    zip file size 320 meg
    uncompressed exe file size 322-meg.

  3. @scottp4: Hey Scott, the reason is that we’ve found if we zip the files first, they fare better in the upload process from our office up to our download servers and then back to you. It’s not an effort to reduce the file size but rather to make sure the file you download works.

  4. I upgraded to Plug-in Suite 4.2 from v4.1.1 on my XP SP3 system and the OnOne menu disappeared from the menu bar. Has any one seen this and is there a fix? Thanks

  5. Hi Mike – Mac OSX 10.5.5 etc

I have Suite 412, I downloaded the updater and ran it – nothing changed SO I downloaded the updater from within the programme and ran it – nothing changed SO I downloaded 412 complete again, ran it and then ran the updater – Finally GF6 appears BUT I still have GF5 Print pro and GF5 Print pro express in my PS menus and in my applications folder ???? HOW do I get rid of the GF5?

ALSO why does your installer litter onOne apps all over my Apps folder, surely they could all be put in one folder?

Great apps, just a very untidty MAC installer

    Cheers, Robert.

  6. Not sure the update works for CS4. Followed manual instructions above and lost the onOne file menu in CS4 and most of the filters in the filter menu. Couldn’t find an uninstaller for 4.2 so reran 4.1.1 and got everything back, plus GF6 is now available and operational. The “check for updates” does ring true now – but afraid to run it for fear of breaking everything again.

  7. @robfol: Hello Robert – the behavior you described about the running the updater and nothing happening is typical if Photoshop is still running when you run the updater – or install any plug-in for that matter. Photoshop only scans the plug-ins folder once at startup so any new items placed there when Photoshop is running will not appear until the next time you open PS.

As for the GF5 items, we felt that upgrading to GF6 shouldn’t mean that we delete or remove GF5. Just like if you upgrade to Photoshop CS4, Photoshop CS3 will still be on your computer. It’s one of those things that if we remove it, people call us. If we don’t, people call us. So it’s a toss up. :-) Regardless, if you would like to remove them, simply go to your Photoshop plug-ins folder and move the GF5 plug-ins out to a different location. The next time you start Photoshop, they won’t appear.

Finally, we put the onOne apps into the Applications folder as backups. But you’ve got a good point, maybe it would be best to place them into a single onOne folder. I’ll pass that along to our engineers who build the installers.

    Best,
    Mike

  8. Thanks Mike,

Yes, running 32bit version of Vista SP1.

I did try the “from either the Filter > onOne menu or from the File > Automate menu.” as specified, but like i said, the majority of them were gone (and might have only been focal point and photo tools – but memory shaky at best and maybe a bit of panic for good measure too) leading me to belive there was something more amiss.

Not sure I got it ALL to work – just saw GF6 show up and tried it.

  9. @Brian_D: Sorry about this. We have definitely seen this (look about 3/4 of the way down the page) and are looking at what we can do. We’ve submitted the issue to Adobe’s developer tech support and are working with them to see what can be done.

    Best,
    Mike

  10. Thanks Mike,

Okay, so the files in the Apps folder aren’t actually needed, that 500MB I can toss from the laptop,
or s there a real reason to keep them as well as the original installer?

Ref leaving old versions, I’ve removed the plug-in and all is OK. For your ref, your own read me says; IMPORTANT: INSTALLING PLUG-IN SUITE 4 WILL REMOVE ANY PREVIOUS VERSION OF PLUG-IN SUITE OR ANY OF THE INDIVIDUAL PLUG-INS THAT YOU HAVE INSTALLED.

    Best Regards, Robert

  11. @Mike Wong: Robert – one more thing…if you want to completely remove GF5 from your Mac, after you remove the GF5 plug-in files from the PS plug-ins folder, delete the following files as well:

    HD > Library > Receipts > GFPrintPro-FullInstaller.pkg
    HD > Library > Receipts > Install Genuine Fractals 5.0 PrintPro.pkg

  12. @robfol: Hey Robert – Yes, you can delete the files in the Applications folder. They are for backup. The files that are used regularly are in the Photoshop CS2/3/4 > Plug-Ins folder.

Thanks for catching the read me info. We’ll get that updated.

    Best,
    Mike

  13. upgraded to 4.0 from suite 3. downloaded 4.1 and 4.2. closed PS4. Windows Vista machine. When I reopen CS4 and go to the help menu for plugins, drop down to Genuine Fractals 6 I get “demo version”. Can’t find that folder in my control panel to delete. What do I do? thanks so much

  14. p.s. when I go the start menu and open genuine fractals 6.0 it opens a user guide for 5.0

  15. I haven’t heard of any others with this problem. Is it possible the file didn’t finish downloading all the way?

  16. Purchased in Plug-In Suite 4 and cannot open photoshop images in it. Assume that it
needs to be updated. Do I need to do all four updates:4.1.2,4.2.1,4.5 and 4.5.1? And I can’t remember if I even registered the product. There are so many numbers on the back. does it start withPSXE- and then have five numbers? thanks. Waited on phone for over 45 minutes and never spoke to a soul.

  17. Plug-In Suite 4.5.1 zip file is corrupt; two downloads, same problem. They downloaded completely and without errors.
