What about adapting the DSLR Remote app to work direct with the camera? A basic viewer with shutter and zoom control would be a start, the pics could be either downloaded or left on the camera for later download.
I do a lot of elevated photography and always need to have a laptop tethered to the Canon G10, having a iPod on the end of the tether would be way more convenient.
