Just a quick update to let everybody know that we are still working on our 1.1 update to the DSLR Camera Remote app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. And yes, the number one feature request we are adding is support for Nikon DSLR Cameras.
One other thing we are adding is a better user interface. Here’s what you can expect to see when 1.1 comes out (estimated release date is mid-July).
I think the new user interface is much nicer than the original 1.0 version and should be much easier to read. Additionally, all of the controls that you can change are grouped together while the buttons that are more informational in nature (like the focus mode and exposure mode) are placed lower and out of the way.
The fire button gets a face lift as well and looks more like a real shutter release button on your camera.
The options menu, which previously was essentially hidden under the Fire button (which you had to press and hold to access – not the most intuitive I’ll admin) gets it’s own button on the lower left corner as well (it’s that gear icon).
All in all, I think this will be a nice improvement (among several others we have planned) for the 1.1 update which will be free to all 1.0 owners.

Great!
I am waiting to be launched! If you need a Beta Tester I’m ready! Iphone 3G 2.2.1 and Nikon D40x.. Thank´s : )

Great to see the added Nikon Support!
Here’s some initial feedback on the user Interface.
- Conciser putting the shutter button back in the bottom centre of the screen. This is the most neutral position for both right and left handed users.
- Landscape mode would be nice to have.
- request: clicking on the live view screen activates shutter or autofocus, depending on preference.
- Please remove the branding in the title above the live view.
This adds nothing to the user and seems unnecessary on a paid app.
Imagine apple putting the apple name and logo in the main iphone screen, it would be annoying.

I used DSLR Remote Pro for a real photo shoot last night (vs just using it to experiment, and get comfortable with it.) I was able to do even more more than I expected! (See the attached photo from the shoot)
Of course DSLR Remote let me stand just beside the HS Senior during the photo shot, but I also used it to check my lighting ratios before the client arrived. I used to use one my daughter dolls to model for my lighting set up. Now I can use myself. This was much faster and much more realistic.
After I used the iPod to trigger the shutter, I handed the iPod to the client, and let her shoot a few by herself. This made her so much more comfortable. Once the shot was really going, I handed the iPod Touch to the client for instant reviews. She could instantly see the result of the posing changes I recommended. I am sure the photos I shot we much better because of using DSLR Remote.
I do have a 1.1 feature request. I hope you can slip it in. During the shot, the client inadvertently set my 50D from Raw to SRaw2. So some of the photos I shot were not at their highest resolution. Can you add an option in the Pro version to switch it to function like the regular version and only display a Fire button? Then I can hand the iPod to a client, and the camera settings will not change.
Thanks again for a great product.

Also it would be nice to see you implement a “start recording” button for movies. I’m buying the software that second.

I was a little disappointed that Nikon DSLR remote support for iPhone WAS not included. Please consider to include this brilliantly feature soon, sooner the better!

Great software! I do agree that the fire button should be center for easier left and right hand access and the removal of the title bar would free up more space for the user interface.

@Todd – Thanks for the comments. I’ll ask the team if we can get that feature request in.
Best,

Will it work with the D60? I hope so.

I know Pentax isn’t such a big player as Canon or Nikon, but a Pentax Version would be amazing. I’ll buy a pro version if you make a Pentax version!

Great looking app, eagerly awaiting the Nikon version!
Quick question; will 1.1 allow me to fire a D3 connected wirelessly to my laptop (like Camera Control Pro), or does it HAVE to be connected via USB?

I finally got 1.0 working///YAY!
I have a 40D. My main interest is using this with Live View. 1,1 will proide support for autofocus, but will the new version allow zooming in 5x or 10x to get precise focus?
thanks
