I just got word from Apple that they have officially approved version 1.1 of the DSLR Camera Remote application. If you already own version 1.0, you should see the free 1.1 update as an update on your iPhone or iPod Touch via the App Store Updates section as soon as they push the 1.1 update to the iTunes Store. I did a check in iTunes at 4:12 pm PST on 8/24/09 and it still says version 1.0 so it may be up to 24 hours before version 1.1 goes live, but it has been approved.
Please note, Apple gives developers like us about 24 hours notice that an app has been approved so we can update our web site or just be aware that it is about to go live. It could go live in an hour or it could be 23 hours from now. The reason I’m telling you this is version 1.1 of the DSLR Camera Remote app is going to require version 1.1 of the free companion server software. Version 1.1 of the iPhone app WILL NOT work with version 1.0 of the Server. Likewise, version 1.0 of the iPhone app will not work with version 1.1 of the server.
So, we’ll be watching for when version 1.1 of the iPhone app is live in the iTunes App store and will then post the download links for the 1.1 server immediately.

Woohoo!
Congratulations guys. Look forward to using it!

@Bmonstarr Thanks. Waited for ages, and now we have to wait just a little bit more for the server software. They should’ve put it up so it was ready to go.

Are people getting 1.1 Professional by updating from 1.0 Professional? The Lite version has 1.1 but the Professional version has not yet updated.

Downloaded both the server software and the Lite version of the iPhone software but no luck yet (the problem seem to be the same as in post number 25).
From the server window I can see that the server software recognizes the camera (Canon EOS 500D). When I try to control the camera from the iPhone software it gives the error “The camera is not supported” (sometimes I also got the “Camera is busy” error). No Canon software running on my PC.
The Log Window shows this message:
“DSLR Remote Server – CCameraCanon::OpenSession Failed Error Number = 7″ (with several trys I got other error numbers, too).

Just updated from 1.0 for my 50D. WOW! I have always wanted to do HDRs with more than 3 exposures. I just shot a 7 exposure 6 stop series of images. The software just came up and worked for me. I am using an MBP with OS 10.5.7.

Working good on my Nikon D40. I noticed a couple of small things, but they can wait a few days so you and I can enjoy the app being out. Nice product, OnOne.
And to reply above, my PC download of the 1.1 server for Windows was 69.5Mb. Before it was updated tonight, the 1.0 was only 17Mb. Big difference from my perspective.

Awesome, my Nikon D300 connected and fell under the spell of my iPhone without a hitch. I’ll have some feedback for you in the next week or so, nothing major, very happy with it. Give your team a much deserved rest!!

Bought and experimented with a bit, definitely very buggy with OSX server and my T1i. So far it seems like being patient (and avoiding RAW sequences) helps, but I cannot get bulb mode to work no matter what I do. It will start the shot, but it comes back with a Camera Error (Bulb Start failed with error = 0000AD19) and I have to manually power-cycle the camera to get it to stop the shot and return control to the server.
Is there someplace where feedback like this should go?

I’m getting the same errors some of the T1i/500D/Kiss X3 users are recieving.
Canon 500D, got the error: The camera is not supported.
The Log Window shows:DSLR Remote Server – CCameraCanon::OpenSession Failed Error Number = 7
Any word on a fix?

Downloaded. Lovely program.
Suggestion: make a iphone/ipod Touch server! Will make the setup much more flexible on location, instead of mounting the camera close to a PC/mac.

Hi, This is Dan, the Product Manager for DSLR Camera Remote. For those of you with The Rebel T1i/500D/Kiss X3 on Windows we have discovered and issue that we are investigating. We will have more information as soon as we determine the problem. Mac OSX users are working fine.

August 26, 2009 at 1:59 pm
Dan, T1i (500D) issues are NOT confined to Windows machines.
I have tried on two different Macs (iMac, Macbook Pro), and encountered issues taking any more than one photo.
Happy to provide error logs if required.

I see that 1.1 is available on the app store here in Australia but my version 1.0 is not picking up the update – any thoughts why it isn’t showing as an available update?

August 26, 2009 at 4:43 pm
To clarify my comment above (#41), it’s Live View that seems to be the problem with my 500D with the Mac(s). Things seem to work ok when I don’t have Live View enabled, but Live View is kind of the whole point with this.
Sam
August 26, 2009 at 4:51 pm
I can’t get any focusing going on here… the only way I get any auto focus is turning on the live view on the back of the camera and pushing the focus button (*).
I have the Canon Rebel XTi with live view on the phone turned on. I see the live view, but no focusing. What am I doing wrong?
D
August 26, 2009 at 10:27 pm
@D (comment #44). When in live view (DSLR app) all you need to do is touch the live view preview image where you want to autofocus. You should hear your camera focusing and then see a focused image in the app. I’ve found it to work this way when using my 5D Mark II. Hope this helps.

August 27, 2009 at 6:30 am
@Bmonstarr No such luck for me
That was my first instinct, having the 3gs… but nothing… maybe there is a bug with XTi?? Thanks for your help!
onOne, any input?

I also can NOT update Pro version from 1.0 to 1.1 on the Canadian App Store. If you search for the app you see 1.1 but the store says I have no available updates.

Agree–live view on T1i/OSX is a problem. Workaround is to take one photo, disable liveview, then enable it again. Bulb mode is just plain broken, as far as I can tell (if anyone has a workaround please post it). Still a cool app, but I _really_ want bulb mode to work.

For those of us who downloaded .v1, the app store ISN’T showing an update available.
Yes, we know that 1.1 is on the store, but if you’ve already got .v1 you need the update.
Please comment on what’s going on, and what’s being done to fix this.
This sucks without knowing what’s going on.

August 28, 2009 at 12:46 am
@53 Roger,
You can delete it from your store then download the 1.1 from the store. You will have to sign back into your Apple ID to get it, but you will receive a message that you already own a previous version, so it is free. Apps are not treated like music files. At least not yet.

Nice, updating right now!
I do a lot of panoramic shoots, so when we can expect onionskinning?
I bet many animators would love to see onion skinning too, maybe an option to overlay a custom image instead of only having the option to overlay earlier image. Though I don’t know anything about animation so this is just speculation
Thanks again for an amazing software that makes my iPhone a great addition to my shooting gear.

I still believe you could open up your functionality of the app by marrying the control of white balance, aperture etc to the intervalometer. This would allow a mass of people easy access to experiment with time lapse photography. Any chance this feature is planned in a future update? If so, I know of five people who will buy this app immediately!

Thanks for replying Mike. I’m on a Mac. Running Snow Leopard. I would love to help test any kind of experiments you guys have for the software. I’m sure the others would love to help too. I’ll also be glad to send video showcasing the results if you pull it off! Keep me posted with updates! I’m going to keep watching this software!
