After a bit of a rest, the onOne Photo Contest is back! Rather than create new pages here on the blog for the contests though, I’d like to ask you to post your photos to the onOne Flickr Group – after all, isn’t everybody on Flickr?

Photo Contest Theme
The theme for our December 2009 photo contest is Depth of Field. Whether the depth of field is created in camera using a wide aperture or created in Photoshop using lens blur or maybe even, oh, I don’t know, FocalPoint 2, doesn’t really matter {1}. Just as long as the photo has some depth to it, you’ll be in the running.
Photo Contest Prizes
In the past, there have been so many great photos that I always feel bad that we can only pick one winner. So this time, there will be two! The grand prize winner will receive a brand new Gura Gear Kiboko camera bag (retail value $429) courtesy of Andy Biggs.
Second place will win a Trek-Tech Go! Pro travel tripod (retail value $230) {2}.
Photo Contest Rules
The rules for the December 2009 photo contest are pretty simple, but they must be followed in order for your photo(s) to be considered.
- The photo(s) must be yours.
- There is no cost to enter but there is a limit of three (3) photo submissions per person.
- When you add your photo to the onOne Flickr Group, please tag the photo with “onOne-2009-12″ so we can find it within the pool of other photos. You may add other tags to the photo, but please be sure to add this tag as well. If not, your photo(s) won’t be considered.
- The contest is open to pretty much anybody living anywhere, but if you live outside of the United States, you are fully responsible for any customs, duties or other forms of tax that may be imposed by your government or mail receiving entity. Submitting a photo to the contest serves as your understanding and acceptance of these rules.
- Please note, using FocalPoint 2 will not necessarily give you any special consideration to win the contest. It’s just another technique you can use to create depth of field. Like most photo contests, strong composition and interesting subject matter will get you a long way. [↩]
- Disclaimer – Trek-Tech sent this to me to give away as a prize here and I was so interested to see how it worked that I opened it to look at it, but everything is in there and it is in new condition. It’s pretty cool! [↩]

I am interested in posting a couple of images for your December contest on Depth of Field. I have never used Flicker so am unfamiliar with the correct process.
When on Flicker I see a number of “onOne” flicker groups. Which one is the correct one to post to. Also, if I post my photo in the correct group and add the appropriate tag do I need to send any other entry notification?
Thank you,
BW

Hi Mike,
Do the photos that have the tag “onOne-2009-12″ automatically get in the contest entries or do you approve them first and then if approved they get put in? I am asking because I have submitted 3 with this tag but they are not there so was just wondering how this works. Thanks Mike!

Never mind Mike, I found out what I did wrong, it was in the tag part.

@Bill – if you create a free Flickr account, do a search for the group “onOne Photos”. Join the group and then add your photos to the group pool.

Do I upload hi-rez images or web-quality? Can anyone copy my images
and print them or are they protected?

Mike,
While looking through the entries just now I came upon one from http://www.maxwellander.ca that needless to say is VERY offensive (not the photo but the foul language in their description).
Aren’t there ANY rules about what kind of language we use when posting our photos for the contest? I mean, come on now… it might not offend everyone but it SURE does this woman. And I’m hoping that onOne is WAY classier than to allow that!
It would be great if you’d ask the person entering the photo to clean up their act.
Thanks,
Joanne

I am new to Flickr and would like to upload photos to the contest. I see how to join the OnOne Group and how to upload pictures to it, but I don’t see how to tag them for the contest. Help, please. Thanks.

I know one thing I did which made my photos not show up was to have it look like this tag: “onOne-2009-12″ with the quotes. Don’t put the quotes but just do
onOne-2009-12 only exactly like it is and that show help….

Hello,
I have a problem with the tag for the contest. It seems that Flickr changes the tag onOne-2009-12 to onOne200912 and nothing in my power I could do to change that. This way, however, my photos are not found by your search… what is the correct way to create the tag so that it stays with the “-” and doesn’t drop that?
Thanks!

never mind… I figured it out: one needs to have a minimum of 5 pictures posted in general before the 3 can show up in the onOne contest…

Hey Joanne,
Flickr is not censored nor should photography be, you don’t like it set your filter higher and stop policing the internet or go somewhere else.
