Attention PhotoFrame 4.5 users! We just posted 10 new PhotoFrame 4.5 Layouts that you can download for free to our onOne Exchange. Actually, saying that there are 10 new layouts is a little misleading. There are actually way more than just 10 layouts. It would be more accurate to say there are 10 new themes and that each theme has at least one horizontal layout and one vertical layout.

Also, not only are there at least 20 new horizontal and vertical layouts, but we’ve also included all of the individual elements that were used to create those layouts. I think there are over 100 unique elements all together in this latest round of free content that we’re making available through the onOne Exchange. Just another example of our commitment to continue to provide value to you after your purchase.

All of these layouts are completely free for PhotoFrame 4.5 users. Just download each of the zip files, uncompress them and then look for the PDF file that has instructions on how to install all of the elements. Here are examples of the 10 new layouts that are now available. Click on a thumbnail below to see a larger version.

It’s just about that time. Photoshop World Las Vegas! Only 3 days until the Fall 2010 Photoshop World starts up and most of us here at onOne will be leaving for Las Vegas on Tuesday to set up our booth. Set up is always a fun day because we run into many of the instructors as well as many of the other companies that are also exhibiting at the Expo. It’s always a good time catching up with everybody at these shows. In addition to seeing our fellow exhibitors, we also look forward to seeing fellow Photoshop users like you. We always appreciate and enjoy seeing familiar faces in our demo theatre and catching up with the friends we’ve made over the years.

If you’re going to be in Las Vegas this week, please do stop by our booth and say hello. In addition to offering some free, live training for our products, we’ve also lined up some great speakers for you to see up close and personal. Here’s the guest speaker schedule we have planned in our booth.

Wednesday, 9/1

4:00 pm > Dave Cross: Tips and Tricks with PhotoFrame 4.5

Thursday, 9/2

2:00 pm > Brian Matiash > HDR Post Processing with PhotoTools 2.5

3:00 pm > Laurie Excell > “I’ve been Framed!” Creative Uses of PhotoFrame 4.5

Friday 9/3

10:00 am > Laurie Excell > Real World Use of onOne’s Plug-In Suite 5

11:00 am > Brian Matiash – HDR Post Processing with PhotoTools 2.5

Of course, we’ll have our resident presenters Dan Harlacher and Peter Kinnan doing presentations and training. Brian Kraft will be there for onOne as well and we also have a new team member, Ryan Kristin who will make his very first Photoshop World appearance and so I’m sure he’ll be excited to present as well. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get a chance!

If you are in Las Vegas this week, please do stop by our booth and say hello. Also, if you’re in town, follow me on Twitter as I’ll be tweeting the onOne team’s where abouts and some impromptu meet ups.

Oh, and if you need a free Expo only pass, you can download one here.

One could argue that processing your HDR photos AFTER they have been aligned, merged and tone-mapped by your HDR software of choice be it Photoshop CS5, Photomatix or any of the other HDR programs out there. In fact, photographer Brian Matiash (who is extremely skilled at HDR photography) says this in an installment of his HDR Best Practices guides.

To prove his point, he’s started a new series in this blog called Behind the Curtain, where he shows you the tone mapped HDR image and the final image after post-processing. One of his keys to success in his post work is PhotoTools 2.5 Professional Edition. Brian has found a variety of effects that he really enjoys using to create his signature style and in this series he shares what those effects are. Take a look at his work (it’s amazing) as it is sure to inspire you (it has me) to go out and shoot more and see just how far you can push PhotoTools.

So be sure to take a look at the first installment of Behind the Curtain – The Royal Clipper. It’s amazing to see the before and after shots here.

First of all, I apologize for not having posted anything here or getting back to any comments recently. It’s been a very crazy past couple of months. Enough of that though, let me try to catch you up with what we’ve been up to.

DSLR CAMERA REMOTE UPDATE

We have a fairly big release in the works although, it will probably be released as a version 1.4 update. In that update, we were planning on putting in the support for the Canon T2i that many of you have been asking for. However, the 1.4 update is taking longer than I’d like so I’ve asked our development team to release a 1.3.1 update that adds support for the T2i.

The release should only affect the DSLR Camera Remote Server application and not the iPhone app. This means we won’t have to submit the application to the iTunes App Store team for approval but rather we can release it directly to you once we’ve completed testing. At the risk of putting a date out that could potentially slip, here goes…If all goes well, we should have the 1.3.1 update available by September 1.

As for the 1.4 release we’re working on, stay tuned. I’ll have more details on that in the next couple of weeks.

PLUG-IN SUITE 5.1.1 UPDATE

Regarding the Plug-In Suite 5.1 release that we put out as a free update a while back that added support for Photoshop CS5 and 64-bit compatibility, we heard from many of you that there we issues with FocalPoint and PhotoTools not displaying results correctly. There was a Mask Pro issue when trying to launch and there were some reports of the onOne Panel (where you now access the plug-ins via the Window > Extensions menu) not working correctly.

After lots of testing on a wide variety of system configurations, we narrowed down the source(s) of the problems and have the Plug-in Suite 5.1.1 update available now for you to download [Mac OS X Download | Windows Download]. These updates are only for Plug-In Suite 5.1 users.

ADDITIONAL PRODUCT UPDATES

Now, if you’re using one of the individual products instead of the Plug-In Suite 5.1, we have updates available for you as well. For your updating convenience, here are the download links. Alternately, you can visit our Software Updates page.

WE’VE MOVED TO A NEW OFFICE

We recently celebrated our 5th year in business (which we couldn’t do without you, so thank you!). For the first 2.5 years, we were in a relatively small space around 1700 square feet. For the past 2.5 years, we were in a space just down the hall that was about 3400 square feet. At first it was great having the extra space but before we knew it, we had out grown it and had the majority of our onOne team members sharing offices, desks stacked up in hallways and literally, for one of our engineers, sitting right outside the bathroom door. Enough was enough.

We just moved across the street from our last office into a new space that is just over 11,000 square feet. Talk about an upgrade! We’ve got a dedicated recording studio now so we can record higher quality product tutorials and record the webinars that have become so popular lately. We even built out a photo studio (though much of the equipment is still on back order) so we can record tutorials on studio shooting techniques as well. I’ll post some pictures of the new space in a week or so as we’re still putting the finishing touches on it.

Part of the move included a completely new phone system which will also improve our customer service and technical support teams as well. It should be much easier to reach us via phone if you need to! The phone numbers and email addresses haven’t changed, but if you want to have our new mailing address here it is.

onOne Software, 15333 SW Sequoia Parkway, Suite 150, Portland, OR 97224.

That about covers all of the big things that I think you’re most interested in. Again, I apologize for the delay in communicating this information. Thanks for your patience and sticking with all of us.

The news that you have all been waiting for…our Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop CS5 Extended compatibility updates have been posted to our download server and are ready for you. In addition to Photoshop CS5 compatibility, these updates also offer 64-bit compatibility for Mac OS X users {1}.

Here’s what you need to know about these updates.

If you are a registered user of any of the current versions of our plug-ins, these updates are provided free of charge.

Even if you’re not using Photoshop Cs5 but are still using Photoshop CS2, CS3 or CS4, you will benefit from these updates as we’ve fixed several known bugs in this release.

This release includes our official support for Aperture 3, specifically running in native 64-bit mode as opposed to running in 32-bit mode as was previously required for our plug-ins.

This release includes preliminary support for the public beta of Lightroom 3. Official support for the shipping version of Lightroom 3 will be available after Lightroom 3 officially ships. {2}

The safest, most foolproof way to do these updates are to visit our Software Updates page and download the appropriate installer and then run it. Please note, if you are a Suite 5 user, be sure to download the Suite 5.1 installer/updater and not the individual product installers/updaters.

If you have any of your own custom frames that you have created and imported into PhotoFrame, be sure to make a backup copy of your User frames folder BEFORE you install the Suite 5.1 update and then re-import your custom frames. Unfortunately, if you do not, you may lose these frames as we have seen where the database installer may wipe these out. Also, any ratings you’ve given your frames will be lost.

So if you’re ready to download the Photoshop CS5 update for your particular product, please visit our Software Updates page and get the installer you need. If you’re wondering, here are the official most recent version numbers for each product as of this release.

Plug-In Suite 5.1

Genuine Fractals 6.06

FocalPoint 2.0.1

PhotoTools 2.5.3

PhotoTune 3.0.2

PhotoFrame 4.5.1

Mask Pro 4.1.8

Windows users have had 64-bit compatibility already since Suite 5 was released back in December 2009

Seems obvious, but I thought I should mention that.

As Dave points out in his video, he found the DSLR Camera Remote very useful on a recent studio shoot he did where, like many of us, he didn’t have an assistant so it was up to him to manage the lighting, do the test shoots and position the model all by himself.

Check out the video below where he recreated the shoot for D-Town TV.

We’ve got another great webinar planned in our onOne University Pro Webinar Series. This month, our good friend Vincent Versace will be in our Portland, Oregon office to present Bokeh: The Science of Focus and the Art of Blur. Here is a brief description of what you can expect.

In this 1 hour live webinar Vincent will join us to discuss the importance of the qualities of how a lens blurs and how focus is overrated in photography. With new software like FocalPoint, it’s now possible to realistically replicate the quality of lens blur, or Bokeh, after the fact, and he’ll take us through when and where photographers deploy blur and how to achieve the desired results. With your DSLR camera it’s now possible to create the look of a Hollywood Glamour shot that previously required an 8 x 10 view camera. Vincent will show you how.

See samples of Vincent’s work here.

This is a free webinar and you can register at http://www.ononesoftware.com/webinars/ – but register now because the webinar is only open to the first 500 registrants. You won’t want to miss this one!
