DSLR Camera Remote on D-Town TV

Dave Cross just sent me an excerpt from a recent episode of D-Town TV where he did a quick review of our DSLR Camera Remote application for the iPhone and iPod Touch (it does work on the iPad as well).

As Dave points out in his video, he found the DSLR Camera Remote very useful on a recent studio shoot he did where, like many of us, he didn’t have an assistant so it was up to him to manage the lighting, do the test shoots and position the model all by himself.

Check out the video below where he recreated the shoot for D-Town TV.

WPPI 2010 Recap

What a great event we had down in Las Vegas last week for the 2010 WPPI Conference and Expo. Between the expo itself and all of the craziness that surrounds a show in Vegas, I’m just recovering now from the show. We also went out for a shoot in Red Rocks after the show and I’ll be posting some of my pictures later after I get a chance to sit down and sort through them.

In the meantime, I wanted to thank everybody who stopped by our booth to say hello. The best part about a show like this is getting to meet the people who are using our products. I always love to hear how people are using the products because often times, it is in a way that is different than what we might have originally thought – which then gives us better feedback and more ideas on how to improve something. At WPPI this year, Patrick Smith, our Customer Service and Sales Manager was with us and he brought along a Flip Mino HD video recorder. As people came up to us at the show, Patrick asked if he could take a short video of them and to tell him about what they thought of onOne Software.

As you’ll see from the video, people had a lot of great things to say and all I can tell you is that it has energized our entire office to serve you better from all areas. Whether it is in customer service, tech support, sales, marketing or development, all of us at onOne are humbled by the kind words and are more determined than ever to continue to provide you with the product, service and support you have come to expect from us at onOne.

A day shooting with Vincent Versace

Last week, Vincent Versace was up in Portland visiting us here at onOne Software so we took him out to the Oregon Coast to see what we could photograph. We ended up with some great shooting weather – about 50 degrees and mostly cloudy and most importantly, no rain!

Along for the shoot were senior product manager Dan Harlacher, Brian Kraft (vp sales), Vincent and me. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to spend a day shooting with Vincent, now you can see. Brian Kraft shot a little video along the way and put it up on Vimeo. I thought it would be fun to share here.

Just a warning though, this may be a side of Vincent many of you have not seen before. He was very heavily under the influence of Gummy Bears early in the day. Evidence of why you should keep them out of the reach of your kids. :-)

The Falcon – Stop-motion film

One of the guys I work with here at onOne just posted a link to this video on his Facebook page and I thought it was so cool that I wanted to share it with you here. Very creative and very well done. The music is fantastic. Check it out.

The Falcon is a steampunk stop-motion film in HD that stars Professor Weston (ISO 50), Silly Patty (+2/-2 EV) and ‘Howell’ the Owl (f/256), as they journey throughout the Focal Kingdom searching for dinner. The Falcon is composed entirely of macro-photographed hardware pieces from disassembled vintage/antique cameras and features music from eslmusic.com artist Thunderball, with sound design by Bret Johnson.

From A.gfa to Z.eiss, and whatever your (small, medium or large) format, The Falcon has a perspective for everyone. Visit thefalcon.tv nest for the synopsis.

Special appearance by: the Aperturians, and Howell’s wife Bell. Partial list of parts: Falcon Minette, Argus AF & C3, Mercury II, Yashica TL, assorted Weston Light Meters, various Polaroid Land Cameras.

Crocosmia through a 135mm lens

I recently picked up a new toy – the Canon EF 135mm f/2L lens. My good buddy Rick had loaned me his for a weekend a while back and ever since I’ve been lusting after it and wanting to get my own. And now that I do, I find myself wanting to shoot in more low light situations where I might have avoided them in the past.

So last night as the sun was setting, I went outside with my 5D Mark II, the 135mm f/2L and my tripod and shot some photos along with this short little video. Nothing fancy. Just having a little fun with the depth of field and thought I’d share it with you here.

Nothing fancy. Just a fun depth-of-field experiment with my Canon 5D Mark II and my new Canon EF 135mm f/2L lens that I just bought.

Shot at 9:15 pm. ISO at 3200. Aperture priority mode set at f/2.
