Genuine Fractals up to 2x Faster in Photoshop CS5

May 18, 2010 by Mike Wong • 4 Comments

As I mentioned the other day, we don't have all of our plug-ins ready for Photoshop CS5 just yet ((Getting Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop CS5 Extended compatibility remains our highest priority and we're still targeting the end of this month to have them available)). However, we do have Genuine Fractals 6 (both Professional and Standard Editions) completed and Photoshop CS5 compatible and it has now been posted on our Software Updates page (scroll down on the updates page to find Genuine Fractals).

One thing that I thought you might be interested in is the speed improvements we're seeing internally here with Genuine Fractals 6.0.5 running in the 64-bit Photoshop CS5 compared to running in the 32-bit Photoshop CS4.

The chart on the above tells the story, but in summary, Genuine Fractals 6.0.5 running in 64-bit Photoshop CS5 is up to 2 times faster than it is in the 32-bit version of Photoshop CS4. Your exact results may vary depending on original file size, destination file size and your computer hardware setup (RAM, processor, operating system, etc), but we're seeing anywhere from a 36% speed increase up to twice as fast.

As I suspect most, if not all, of you read somewhere yesterday that Adobe has officially announced the upcoming availability of Photoshop CS5. There was an announcement back at Photoshop World and there have been lots of tidbits mentioned here and there on YouTube and Adobe Labs, but until today, third-party developers such as onOne Software were not allowed to talk about Photoshop Cs5 as part of our developer agreements and NDAs (non-disclosure agreements).

But now that the embargo has passed, we can now talk about Photoshop CS5 and how it will impact our plug-ins here at onOne Software. In fact, we issued a press release this morning all about it, but there's even more information here...

Genuine Fractals 6 Gallery Wrap Tip

January 22, 2009 by Mike Wong • 3 Comments

We've had some really great feedback on the new version of Genuine Fractals 6 (here, here and here) and in particular photographers are telling us that they really like the new Gallery Wrap feature that automates the process of adding the additional portion of your image that will wrap around the canvas frame.

That being said, we've also heard from a couple of you that it leaves white blocks in the corners of the image instead of having that part of the image reflected. We did that to help guide you where to fold, but as it turns out, depending on how you fold the canvas, it can leave a white line on the corner which is not necessarily what you want to have happen. But here are a few tips from Dan Harlacher, our senior product manager, on how you can avoid those white lines.

Genuine Fractals 6 on an 8 Core Mac Pro

December 23, 2008 by Mike Wong • 1 Comment

Bottom Line: with Genuine Fractals 6.0, an 8-core Mac Pro is effectively a 7.4-core machine in actual results. That’s not perfect, but it’s very very good.

Lloyd Chambers (aka diglloyd) has posted a very comprehensive update to his report card of applications and how well (or poorly) they take advantage of multiple processing cores in today's computers - specifically a Mac Pro with 8 Cores and 32 GB of Memory (I'm really jealous of this setup!).

Lloyd recently ran Genuine Fractals 6 Professional Edition through his tests and gave Genuine Fractals 6 an A+ as it takes full advantage of all the computing power available in his Mac Pro.

Genuine Fractals 6 uses all 8 processing cores on Lloyd's Mac Pro

Genuine Fractals 6 & PhotoTools 2

November 19, 2008 by Mike Wong • 2 Comments

Earlier today, I sent out an eNewsletter about lots of news going on here at onOne. One story that has generated lots of email and phone calls is I wasn't clear that Genuine Fractals 6 and PhotoTools 2 are NOT shipping yet, but only announced.

Please note, Genuine Fractals 6 (standard and professional editions) are scheduled to ship around the end of November or the first week in December depending on how fast we can get disks back from our CD replicator.

PhotoTools 2 (standard and professional edition) won't be shipping until late January 2009.

I apologize for any confusion the eNews may have caused.
