I just got an email from my friend Vincent Versace about his upcoming Welcome to Oz 2.0 workshop with the Maine Media Workshops in July. The workshop runs July 3 - July 9, 2011 and is based on Vincent's new book, Welcome to Oz 2.0. It will be a great chance to get inspired by Vincent up close on how to be taken by a photograph rather than just take a photograph.
There are only a few spots left so if you're thinking of going, be sure to sign up soon. More information on this workshop can be found on the Maine Media Workshop web site.

Last week, while we were in Las Vegas for Photoshop World, we asked our good friend Vincent Versace to do a "Live from Las Vegas" webinar. He was more than happy provided we supplied lots of coffee and a snack or two. One of the topics Vincent covered was how he used FocalPoint to re-create the blur, or bokeh that he normally creates with his lens by shooting at f/5.6 but in the case of this example, he couldn't shoot at his preferred aperture because his assistant left all of the lighting and reflectors at the studio.
The webinar covered MUCH more than FocalPoint, in fact, FocalPoint is the shortest part of the presentation. Rather, Vincent covered lots of Photoshop techniques such as removing color casts and adding warmth to the photo in a realistic way. Throughout the entire presentation, those who attended live told us how much they loved the live presentation.
But what if you missed it? Well, you're in luck. We just posted the recorded episode up on the onOne University. You can watch it for free here. Also, here are some behind the scenes photos that I took while Vincent was presenting and Dan and Addy were busy answering the questions that were coming in. All photos were processed with PhotoTools 2.5 Professional Edition. The frame is one of Vincent's that is included in PhotoFrame 4.5 Professional Edition.

We've got another great webinar planned in our onOne University Pro Webinar Series. This month, our good friend Vincent Versace will be in our Portland, Oregon office to present Bokeh: The Science of Focus and the Art of Blur. Here is a brief description of what you can expect.

Last week, Vincent Versace was up in Portland visiting us here at onOne Software so we took him out to the Oregon Coast to see what we could photograph. We ended up with some great shooting weather - about 50 degrees and mostly cloudy and most importantly, no rain!
Along for the shoot were senior product manager Dan Harlacher, Brian Kraft (vp sales), Vincent and me. If you've ever wondered what it's like to spend a day shooting with Vincent, now you can see. Brian Kraft shot a little video along the way and put it up on Vimeo. I thought it would be fun to share here.
Just a warning though, this may be a side of Vincent many of you have not seen before. He was very heavily under the influence of Gummy Bears early in the day. Evidence of why you should keep them out of the reach of your kids.

A while back, I was down in Los Angeles and hung out with Vincent Versace for a few hours. As usual, he showed me a couple of cool things in Photoshop, one of which was a new technique he was working on to bring details back into an image - essentially taking something that was blurry and bringing it back into focus. It was pretty cool.
Well, now he's got it on a training DVD and I thought I would share the news with all of you here.

Vincent's DVD that teaches this technique is called The Lazarus Effect: Raising the Dead Pixel and you can find out more about it at Vincent's website at AcmeEducational.com.
He's also got a DVD update to his book Welcome to Oz called Return to Oz - From Oz to Kansas 2.0 and it's all about Black and White conversions.
Welcome to Oz is one of my favorite Photoshop books and would recommend it to anybody who wants to learn more about Photoshop. I'm looking forward to seeing the Return to Oz materials especially since Vincent is one of the best at the black and white conversion.
