onOne Software Announces Perfect Layers 2
New version brings new features such as a retouch brush, file browser functionality and now serves as the hub for the new Perfect Photo Suite 6.
onOne Software, Inc., a leading developer of innovative, timesaving solutions for professional and advanced amateur photographers, today announced Perfect Layers 2, part of the Perfect Photo Suite 6 that was also announced today.
Perfect Layers is an application that allows photographers to combine photos for endless creative options. Perfect Layers 2 adds new capabilities including a retouch brush, a file browser and flexible preview options making it a great choice for photographers who want a lightweight and streamlined application that gives them the benefit of working with layered image files.
As photographers do more of their work in applications like Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom software and Apple Aperture, onOne has evolved its product line to support these changing workflows. Perfect Layers was developed and designed along with industry thought leader Scott Kelby, as an application that would deliver the power and benefit of layered images to users working primarily in Lightroom or Aperture.
“The photographer’s workflow is becoming more and more centered around dedicated applications like Adobe’s Lightroom and Aperture from Apple,” said Craig Keudell, president of onOne Software. “Perfect Layers 2 brings even more value and benefits to these photographers by providing additional tools that are not available in these applications. Additionally, Perfect Layers 2 is now a central component of the new Perfect Photo Suite 6 and will serve as the glue between all of our new products released from today.”
To further streamline workflows, Perfect Layers has been integrated into the new Perfect Photo Suite 6. As a result, users of Perfect Photo Suite 6 will now be able to move effortlessly between all of the individual products using the new Module Selector within Perfect Photo Suite 6.
Key Benefits of Perfect Layers 2
Retouch Brush (New!): The new Retouch Brush allows you to remove dust spots, blemishes and other distractions in your image quickly and easily. Quick touch ups and edits to your image are made very simple with this new tool.
File Browser (New!): The File Browser provides a filmstrip or light table style view of a folder providing a visual way to find the images you want quickly. Several browser tabs can be opened at once, so that multiple elements for a project can be found and opened easily.
Flexible Preview Options (New!): The ability to view the image and mask side by side in real time provides a live preview of any changes that are made. There are five different ways to look at the mask to make adjustments and judge quality.
MaskingBrush: Control how much of each layer is visible by using the MaskingBrush created originally for PhotoTools 2.6 and FocalPoint 2. Similar to using a layer mask, the MaskingBrush can be used to reveal or hide selected areas of a layer. The layer masks created by the MaskingBrush are non-destructive and can even be re-edited with Photoshop.
MaskingBug: Create gradient masks for making vignettes and graduated filter effects with the MaskingBug from PhotoTools 2.6. As with the MaskingBrush, the MaskingBug is non-destructive and can even be re-edited with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements later if desired. If you use a Wacom pressure sensitive tablet, you can even control the brush size or opacity by how hard you press while painting the mask.
Blending Modes: Perfect Layers not only brings the power and creativity of blending modes to Lightroom and Aperture, but also provides real-time previews of each blending mode before applying it to the selected layer! Blending modes determine how two layers interact with each other. For example, you can blend a black and white version of an image with a color version to get a very dramatic and stylized look or you can duplicate a single image and change the blend mode to make the colors pop. Perfect Layers includes the following blending modes: Normal; Lighten; Darken; Screen; Multiply; Overlay; Soft Light; Hard Light and Color.
Color Fill Layer: Create new layers filled with a solid color. Perfect Layers includes presets that simulate common color correction and black and white conversion filters. The built-in masking tools can be used to selectively place and control the strength of these color fill effects. Additionally, the Color blend mode is especially useful with Color Fill Layers to give images a special effect.
- Adjust Layers: The streamlined interface in Perfect Layers contains all the controls needed to size, align and reorder layers. A number of useful blending modes offer the ability to dramatically alter images by changing the brightness, altering the color or even creating special effects. All the adjustments can be easily modified. Perhaps the most understated feature is that Perfect Layers does not try to be a full-fledged replacement image editor. The simplicity of Perfect Layers and the tools provided allow photographers to be able to quickly do what they want to without having to wade through dozens of tools they’ll never use.
Perfect Layers 2 will be available in late October as standalone product for $69.95 and as part of the Perfect Photo Suite 6 for $299.95. Owners of Plug-In Suite 5 or earlier versions can upgrade to Perfect Photo Suite 6 for $149.95.
Registered owners of Perfect Layers 1 will receive a complimentary upgrade to Perfect Layers 1 as an electronic download at no cost. Perfect Layers 1 owners who wish to receive Perfect Layers 2 on a physical disk will be charged a nominal shipping fee.
Registered owners of Perfect Photo Suite 5.5 who received Perfect Layers 1 as a free update to their Suite can get Perfect Layers 2 as part of the paid upgrade from Perfect Photo Suite 5.5 to Perfect Photo Suite 6.
