Connecting to a server hangs the client

Macintosh Users:

This can be due to the 10.4 Firewall.  You will need to temporarily disable the Firewall under 10.4 in order for the DSLR Remote Server and Client to connect with each other.

To turn off the Firewall you will need to follow the following steps:
1. Go to the System Preferences
2. Select Sharing
3. Click on the middle Firewall tab
4. Click on the Stop button.

If you are using system 10.5 you can keep the Firewall on but you can add the DSLR Remote in the list of applications that will be allowed.

1. Go to System Preferences.
2. Select Security
3. Select Firewall
4. Use “Set access for specific services and applications”
5. Click on the “+” button and navigate to your Applications folder and then select the DSLR Remote Application.

Once added to this list you will be able to use the DSLR Remote with your Firewall enabled.

Windows Users:

You must make sure your Firewall is set to allow Exceptions.  When Exceptions are disabled this will prevent the DSLR Remote Server and Client from connecting with each other.

To make sure you have Exceptions turned on under XP follow these steps:
1. Go to the Start menu
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select Windows Firewall
4. The screen that comes up will have the option “Don’t allow exceptions”.  Make sure this check box is unchecked.

To make sure you have Exceptions turned on under Vista follow these steps:
1. Go to the Start menu
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select Windows Firewall
4. Click on the Change Settings link.
5. You will then see the dialog that has the option “Block all incoming connections” and make sure that is unchecked.
